Artist Statement:

In this collection the artist draws a landscape of conflicted moments in which the focus, the muse as the subject appears to defy linearity of time. Through this somewhat unconventional rhetoric of pluralistic visuals, often by means of a layered set of images, the photographer as the artist develops syncopations, in other words, irregular rhythms the normal audience eye is asked to follow. Inspired by seminal photographer Edward Weston’s modernist approach but somewhat betraying his detail-oriented-ness, the artist aims to urge the viewer to be inquisitive and look deeper into the fleeting moments of not just in these images but also around them, step away rom the temporal expectations of being in one moment, and step into a more layered understanding of time and vision through these polyrhythmic exposures. The photographer as the poet believes everything is everything else, and these pieces imply that there is always something hidden within us that we may see when we disrupt time through syncopation and that we can project something more, not as who we can be, but maybe more than who we are.

Bio:

Monsoon Bioscope is an American poet and photographer based in Madison, Wisconsin. He explores themes of abandonment, subconscious, and nostalgia in his work. His editorial photography has been published by Nustar, Bold and Beyond, and L’Attirance. His visual art photography appeared in literary journals such as the Ilanot Review, Mud Season Review, Welter, Kansas City Voices, and more.
